What should you know before surgery?

The duration of surgery usually takes 1-3 hours, and is usually performed under general anesthesia (sometimes under local anesthesia). Usually within 8-10 days after the surgery the sutures are removed. Mastopexy is often performed in combination with augmentation mammoplasty (endoprosthesis insertion) with purpose to simultaneously increase the volume of breast. During mastopexy the nipple is moved to a new position and provides the skin correction and breast implants give a more natural volume. Mastopexy can possibly eliminate a certain degree of asymmetry of areolas. Mastopexy can be combined with lipofilling to give the effect of "fullness" of the upper slope of the breast in patients with unequal distribution of the breast tissue. It is also necessary to proceed the specific list of clinical lab analysis to clarify the patient’s state of health at the moment. At least 2 weeks before surgery it is necessary to avoid smoking and alcohol intake, calculate the menstrual cycle, agree on taking any medications with the surgeon. It is necessary to have a special compression garment by appropriate breast size, beforehand.

This correction is usually accompanied with a low complication rate. However, there are possible complications for mastopexy:

  • keloid scars;
  • bleeding;
  • infection;
  • uneven contour of the breast;
  • asymmetry of the breast;
  • fat necrosis;
  • pain syndrome.
